On the Hillside – Sharing the Journey – Settling in Alaska – Newsletter edition fr. Mar. 2019.

Luke 21:36 (NASEC)

But keep on the alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.

Spring Breakup Greetings,

Our newsletter is attached!

It’s Spring and the Hills are thawing out from our first winter back up in Alaska!  We now have over 13 hours a day of daylight in Glennallen and the snow is almost completely gone.  Temperatures are a nice high 20’s to 50’s range (very nice, and not 40 below!).  It has been a very busy winter between school for the family, lots of sports to cover for KCAM, and Scott plugging away on his list of catching up, technically speaking, at the studios.  Scott has also settled into a regular Air shift on Tuesday and Thursday Noon Mid-day reports; this helps him in knowing what the technical needs are of our announcers and to fix or adapt equipment in a more relevant way.

This past week KCAM celebrated its 55th anniversary on the air (March 27).  In addition, Matthew, our oldest son, passed his written test and received a learning permit to drive!  Here we Gooooo!  Sarabeth has begun Gardening – well at least prepping the gardens and figuring out what we are going to need to do to have some vegies growing this year.

Thanks for reading our news and for communicating with us too!  We hope you enjoy it and remember to praise The Lord for what He is doing through us.  Please remember us in your prayers and Have a Happy Resurrection Celebration!  Happy Easter.

In His service,

Scott and Sarabeth Hill and family

Journal Entry 10/2/2018 – Together on the Journey – Alaska Arrival and settling in

October 2, 2018 - Author: Editor

Matthew 6:31 (NASEC)
[31] “Do not worry then, ….. for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.[33] “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
[34] “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Greetings from Glennallen, Alaska,

3,838 miles traveled with – no flat tires, no engine trouble, no delays at the borders, good weather for driving, and A God who blessed our socks off!  The verses above are good reminders not to worry about anything that we “need” because we have a God that KNOWS!  Therefore, if we know that He knows, we are free to seek His kingdom.  Thank you for your many prayers and support that helped to make the trip possible and the mission field attainable.

We hit the ground running from our arrival on the evening of Thursday, September 27…unpacking the trailers in a day and a half and then getting everything set up and figuring out what was still needed over the next few days.  At the same time, we were working on establishing utilities, getting driver’s licenses and plates, planning a trip to Anchorage, and attending the first night of Awana on Wednesday.  Seven days later, Thursday, we were off to Anchorage for our first stocking up trip that ended up being 4 days long, ugh!  It is nice to know that God knew already what we needed and had things already planned.

Today, Tuesday Oct. 2, was Scott’s first official day at KCAM!  It is Sharathon time at the radio stations next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, so he is getting familiar with how things work and flow in the studios so he can take some shifts on air during the fundraiser.  Many engineering tasks need some immediate attention as well, so his time will not be idly spent.  Today, as well, Sarabeth baked the first loaves of bread in our humble abode!  This has filled the air with wonderful smells as she is creating our home and settling us in.

Please remember our prayer requests here and to send us your prayer requests as well.  Pray for Sharathon – that it would, first, Glorify God and the work that He is doing; second, that we would meet the goal; and third, that we would have a wonderful time of outreach and fellowship with our listeners!  Please pray for Sarabeth as she finishes settling in and begins a new school year with the kids.  PRAISE the LORD for His great provision and care for us on the many miles traveled and for giving us a home to be in out of the cold.

THANK YOU FOR SHARING THE JOURNEY!

In His service,
Scott and Sarabeth Hill and family

Journal Entry 9/17/18 – Together on the Journey – A Quick Update

And my God will (DID!) supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:19

Canadian Greetings,

What an awesome God we serve!  Thank you for your prayers as we travel the long road to Alaska.  We thought we would be able to slow down just a bit and spend some time camping along the way, but the temperatures and weather have already dropped below tolerance, especially for our youngest.  So our timetable has been adjusted accordingly…we entered Canada yesterday without a glitch, currently in Lethbridge.  Praise the Lord for an inexpensive hotel with a waterpark!  Since we are not going to be camping as much as we had planned, the expenses of travel are going to be a little bit higher so if anyone is willing to help with filling up our outgoing expenses account, it will be much appreciated.  Last we knew, we were $2500 short of the goal.

Our schedule now will, Lord willing, put us into Glennallen 4 days earlier than we expected, arriving on Thursday September 20.  Thank you for remembering us in prayer for safety in travel – especially through the snow that is already falling in Canada.

By the way, we had a wonderful time in Carey Idaho visiting our church there that we had not seen for 16 years.  It was truly a blessing from God that we could fellowship with His family there, somewhat like the future of all believers!

In His service,

Scott and Sarabeth Hill and family

Journal Entry 8/7/18 – together on the Journey – Why? & A Schedule Update

August 7, 2018 - Author: Editor

Greetings from a green Nebraska,

When we departed last April, Nebraska was a bit brown, but when we returned late last week, it was all green in the fields of farm country!  It is truly amazing how different a landscape looks in just a few short months and how we can go from hot, dry and sandy — to hot, humid, and green in just a 3 day drive.  Genesis 1:11 states “Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so.”  Yes, I agree, it is definitely so!

Farming makes me think a lot about why we do what we do.  God has called all of His followers to be witnesses and to make disciples throughout the entire world (Acts 1:8 & Matthew 28:19 & 20).  Our part is to keep technology working so that those called to declare the good news ‘on the air’ can keep on announcing.  However, we also have the responsibility to witness what God is doing in this ministry and to encourage the Body of Christ (our Partners) with that witness.

There are different seasons in farming where you are doing a lot of waiting and planning: deciding things like what to plant, where it will be planted, how much to plant, when to plant, how to take care of the plants, when to harvest, etc…you get the idea.  Once you are done with planting or harvesting there is a lot of work done during the waiting.  WE are in the planning and waiting season of our ministry.  While we work at sharing what God is doing through our visiting and traveling, God is at work preparing the fields, both the ministry field (Alaska Radio) and the Sending field (growing our prayer, financial, and witnessing partners).

We have seen a very green growing season in our partnerships.  We are blessed with tremendous growth in new relationships with three new churches that have come alongside us.  We are seeing God grow our funding rapidly almost keeping in step with the growing season here in Nebraska.  Of the 100 $20/month pledges challenge, we had four more taken while we traveled and we are down to just 40 more to go.  We are excited to see what God has planned for Harvest this year!

Our schedule over the next few weeks:
Aug 8 – Aug 13: Visiting Eatons in Alvo, NE
Aug 5 and 12   : Visiting Crossroads Bible Church
Aug 8:  Scott helping at Cass County fair with CBC
Aug 13:  Lindsborg, KS
Aug 14:  Dallas/Ft Worth TX
Coming soon – dates for Houston, Austin, and San Antonio (in that order).
September 13th – Our DEPARTURE date for heading North to Alaska with 100% support!  (We are so close at 87% right now)

THANK YOU so much for sharing in this amazing journey with us, also for praying and for partnering with us.

In His service,
The Hill Family
